Mutation sketch notes

I learned that people can get it if something is read wrong in the DNA.
The most interesting mutation I learned is the two headed snake.  I thought it was gross and weird.
Yes I liked sketchnoting but I prefer taking my time so watching the video on my iPad and taking notes.
I would try to focus more and try to add more notes so I could have more information.

Literacy History

The first time I learned my letters was when I was in kindergarten.  What we did was we would have a picture of the letters and we would sing the alphabet song and my kindergarten teacher would point to what letter we would be on.  My teachers and my parents would read to me and I enjoyed when someone read to me because when someone read out loud I could picture it better than reading it by myself.  And when I read aloud I could picture whats going on in the book better than just reading it in my head.  I don't really remember what the first book I read but I remember me reading a Curious George book and a book that had a dog on it and it wasn't like a regular book it was like if it had a picture of grass the grass would feel like grass and if there was a picture of a cat the cat would be soft.  I did enjoy reading on my own.  I would get a book and if it wasn't nice outside I would just read in my room and If it was nice I would read outside.

I first learned to write my name I think it was when I was in first grade.  I felt proud of myself because I could write and read.  I felt happy when I would know what a word was or I knew how to write a word.  At first I was scared about going to school and I thought I was gonna get lost and I felt like I wouldn't know what to do but when I got to school I liked it because I thought it was fun and I liked learning new things.

Nightjohn Illiterate

If I was illiterate  I would not know what to do because I would not be able to write or read.  If I would try to read something I couldn't because I would not know how to read because I haven't went to school.  If I would want to write a letter to someone I couldn't because I wouldn't know how to write because I wouldn't be going to school.  What I would do if I didn't know how to read, write, I don't know what I would do.  I would probably just sit home all day and do nothing at all.  If I tried to go to the a store and see what I could eat, I wouldn't know how much the food costs. I also wouldn't know what it is and how to cook it because I couldn't read.  And I would probably not go out because I would not know where to go because I couldn't read street signs.

Summary

The article The Noble Experiment is about Jackie Robinson and how he became a baseball player, and how he had to deal with discrimination.  In the story Charley Thomas was discriminated against a hotel, because he was colored.  He wanted to be white so that people could respect him more.  In the text it said, "If only they were white."  "Charley," Mr.Rickey said, "The day will come when they won't have to be white".  Branch Rickey was creating a Negro League.  And when he announced that he was creating a Negro League he made many people mad.  Mr. Ricky offered Jackie Robinson to join the Brooklyn Dodgers.  Mr.Rickey asked Jackie Robinson if he had the guts because there was racist people at games who did not like the idea of a black man on a white baseball team.  Branch Rickey said,"I'm looking for a ballplayer with the guts not to fight back."  So he is telling Jackie Robinson what he needs from him in order to be on the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Theme

The conflict of the book I Need My Monster was that the little boy was very picky and he needed a monster that would keep him in bed but the monster that was meant for him went fishing and his name was Gabe.  So the little boy couldn't sleep unless he had his monster.  Monsters came and went until Gabe came back.  The character reacted to this conflict by making the monsters leave if they didn't have what the little boy wanted.  What he wanted was a big and scary monster like Gabe with a big tail and long nails  if the monsters didn't have what he wanted then he made them leave. The theme of this story was sometimes its hard for people to change, like the boy he was used to his monster and he didn't want any other monster.

Paper reflection

While I was doing my research paper some things I struggled with was using transition words.  I would keep saying the mantis shrimp for all of my paragraphs.  I had trouble finding transition words in the right spots.  I also had problems finding websites because some of them were how to take care of the mantis shrimp and some of them didn't give a lot of information about certain topics.  That leads to me having a hard time to find diet facts because there wasn't a lot of information about it.  Some things that were easy was paraphrasing in the information.  It was easy because I didn't have a lot of punctuation problems.  I would like to work on transition words on my next paper.

Paraphrase

Participants started knitting sweaters for the penguins in oil spills.  When the participants put on the sweaters they said that is was difficult to put them on.  The penguins tried to take the sweaters off with their beaks.  Because of the sweaters the penguins were warm and they were clean. The birds grew healthy.  Sweater patterns were sold online for people to help out make sweaters.  Soon there were a lot of donations from people.
