Topic and Main Idea

Topic: Kenya/Paris attack opinion.

Heading #1 main idea: Several people quickly found an article on the attack written by British Broadcasting corp.

Heading  #2 main idea: Many people feel that we react to terrible events differently depending on whom the victims are.  Some deaths seem to matter more to us than others.

Heading #3 main idea: One thing seems clear, though.  People are more likely to care when terrible things happen to people and places to which they feel close.

Heading #4 main idea: It is that closeness to Paris that made so many americans express their sadness and shook on Facebook and Twitter.  It was almost as if a friend had died.

Authors POV and purpose

1.  What is the author's point of view? list 3 pieces of evidence.
The authors point of view is  that its not fair that people felt bad for the Paris attack but not for the Kenya. In the article it said "The attack in Kenya was just as terrible as what happened in Paris."  "Some people think the difference is unfair, even racist."  "They believe it shows that Americans and other Westerners care less about people who are not Western or white."

2.  Do you agree or disagree with the author's point of view? why or why not?
I agree that is is not fair that people felt bad for the Paris attack but not for the Kenya attack because in the article it said "Fighters killed students and others at Kenya's Garissa University College.  Yet back in April there was almost nothing about it on Facebook and Twitter.  There was no outpouring of sadness and support, as there was for Paris."  And innocent kids were killed just because ISIS wants to take over their country.  They have no right to do that.

3.  What is the author's purpose? Provide 1 piece of evidence.
The authors purpose is to inform the readers about how its not fair that people felt bad for the Paris attack but not bad for the Kenya attack. Many people feel that we react to terrible events differently depending on whom the victims are.  Some deaths seem to matter more to us than others.

Authours POV

1.  What responsibilities do people have to animals?  I think we should care for animals and give them shelter.  If people don't want them they should put them in a zoo or they should give them to stores who will take care of them.  We shouldn't abandon our pets if you are going to abandon your pet then just don't get a pet because there are many people in this world who probably want pets and they cant have one.

What is the authors point of view?
In the article "Ending "Shamu" stunts isn't enough to protect whales, activists say"(1st article)  The authors point of view is that they should stop the shows.  In the other article "Endangered whale may be safer in an aquarium"(2nd article)  their point of view is that they shouldn't let whales go to the ocean they should keep them in an aquarium.

Give three pieces of evidence that support your answer
In the 1st article it said "SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. made the announcement Monday about ending the shows.  Visitors at the San Diego park made it clear they prefer seeing killer whales act naturally rather than doing tricks.  In the 2nd article it says "Possible causes for the decline are reduced prey, pollutants that could cause reproductive problems and oil spills.  In the first article it says "Whales held in San Diego were the park's main attraction in the 1970's and helped make SeaWorld a top tourist spot.

How do the two authors distinguish their points of view from each other?
The authors have different points of views about captivity.  In the first article it said"However, they said the marine park should stop keeping killer whales in captivity altogether.  In the 2nd article it said"NOAA officials said on wednesday that holding an animal captive is not, in and of itself, mistreated.

Exciting Moment

In my book The True Meaning Of  Smekday one exciting moment was when, Gratuity and J.Lo thought they saw a UFO, and they started talking about a UFO in a museum.  Then they started to have an argument.
"Yes?" said J.Lo, watching the road.  "This is a city?"
"I guess so.  It's just that it's famous for being where a UFO supposedly crashed like... sixty years ago or something."
"What is 'you if oh' ?"
It was crazy that he didn't know this.  "It stands for 'Unidentified Flying Object," I said.
"A flying saucer.  An alien spaceship."
J.Lo hit the brakes.  I was dumped off my seat and hit my head on the dash.
"Ow!"
"Seat belts," said J.Lo
"What was that for?"
"We have to stop in the Roswell!  We canto see the spaceship!"
I winced.  "Yeah... except... I don't really think there ever was a spacesh-"
"You said! Tip saidto it crashed-landed!"
"No.  No, it's... there's no proof.  It's just something people say"
They go on and  Gratuity teaches  J.Lo about Big Foot and the lockness monster.  They enter Roswell and then J.Lo said he saw a boy on a bicycle.  Gratuity thought he was hallucinating.  They heard a voice that said "Hurry" and they said is sounded like a kid voice. They went to go hide in some trees so they wont see them.

Sensory Language

In my book The True Meaning of Smekday, Some sensory language I found was when they were explaining the Gorg they said. "He could not get sick and he would never tire."  So that sentence makes me think that the Gorg  is probably big and it is probably really strong because it said that is does not tire.  When it says "We'd found our way through the desert brush to another brush to another wide western highway.  Down a six- lane road with concrete driver big enough to have it's own gift shop we passed plaster box buildings and signs for chain restaurants."  That tells me that they must have been a long drive because it said, desert brush to another brush to a wide western highway".  When it said "Down a six-lane road with concrete driver big enough to have it's own gist shop."  That tells me that it is a big six-lane road because gift shops can be big.  "The near distance I could see schools of Boov ships kicking through the air like shining octopi."  That makes the book add more suspense because the Boov are looking for J.Lo and Gratuity and I want to figure out if they are going to catch them or are they going to escape.

Story elements influence

The title of my book is The True Meaning of Smekday, how does the setting influences the main character?  The setting is in Florida and she seems worried because she is not used to that much rain and sometimes she feels like she is going to wake up in a flood and once she did and it wasn't because of the rain it was because of a character in the book named Gorg and he is the bad person in the story so she wants to get out of Florida but she needs to find her mom and the boov said that she will be in Florida because that is where they put everybody that they abducted.  How does the conflict influence the main character?  The conflict influences the main character because she needs to decide to save herself or to save herself and her mom. And she decides to save herself and her mom because she really misses her mom and she wants her back. And the boov is going to try and help her find her mom.  And she feels kind of anxious.

Five Senses

In my book The True Meaning of Smekday, Gratuity is one of my characters what I think she looks like is She has short hair and she is probably short because some times in the book it says that when she drives she has to scoot up to the petals because she cant reach them.  What I think she sounds like is she sounds loud and bossy because in the text it says
"Whats the good news?"
"I am believing that they want to take me alive."
"And the bad?".  So it is telling me that she really doesn't care about him.  And she is talking loud when she should be whispering.  I think she smells bad because she is in abandon area and she has no where else to go and shower.

Protagonist/Antagonist

In my book "The True Meaning Of Smekday" the protagonist is Gratuity.  The antagonist is J.Lo.
I know that the protagonist is Gratuity because she is trying to find her mom and she thinks that her mom will be at a place called Happy Mouse Kingdom and so when she was going there J.Lo didn't want her to go because he thought she will leave him and he doesn't understand that she wants some time alone and he is not giving her space.  In the text they have arrived to Happy Mouse Kingdom and the text said"Time for beds", J.Lo said.  He was staring at me from the back.
"Ummm... I think I'm going to have a look around", I said.  "On foot.  I'll be back soon; I just want to see something". There was a pause.
"I will come with Gratuity"
"No...no, thats fine.  You sleep . I wont be long"
J.Lo's eyes grew. He kept looking at me, and I could stop talking..
"You are!You are leaving me!"
"I promise, im-"
"You hate me!"
And then they were arguing for a while and he let him come with her.

Story Elements

In the book The True Meaning of Smekday  The setting is in an abandoned place and they are going to Flordia.  One character from the story is named J.Lo and he is an alien and I think he has a happy personality because in the book, a girl named Gratuity she is trying to look for her mom and move away from the boovs ( aliens) and she found a boov and she is traveling with him because she wants to find out why they took her mom and were she is and this is what happened,
"You stole my mom!" I said rubbing my hand.
"Mimom?"
"My mom!"
"Gratuitymom is very helpful!"
"Is'?" "Is very helpful? Is she... She's still alive?"
"Of course she is alive! said J.Lo "What a question! She is a live and certainly to be waiting in Flordia for her Gratuity.
So that tells me that he didn't get mad and he is trying to help her.

Inference post

In my book "The True Meaning of Smekday" my main character acts like a brat and she seems like she is always in a hurry and I know this because in the book it said "Pig!" I yelled.  "PIIIIIIIIIIG!" "C'mon, Pig," I said reassuringly.  To me that sounds like she is in a rush and she is yelling at her cat to come in the car.  Her mom and her (Gratuity the main character) were having a conversation, "It's okay, baby", she said. "I'm not really mad, I just-"
"Shut up!" I said. "I have to tell you-"
"Don't you tell me to shut up. YOU shut up."
"Mom-"
"I don't like this behavior.  Your acting very weird...ly."
